New Music Releases -- July 2013

Published: June 18, 2013

Following three successful albums with The Scene, 20 year old Selena Gomez will release her first solo album 'Stars Dance' on July 23. The album is expected to include largely elements of pop and dance as she focuses on more adult themes, like love and relationships. Her first hit single 'Come & Get It' topped the charts and was a highly regarded electro-pop hit. The second single 'Slow Down' is influenced by dubstep, as are many other songs on the album. Meanwhile, The Backstreet Boys will release their first album since 2009. 'This Is Us' will be the first album featuring five original members since 2006, since Kevin Richardson has permanently rejoined the band.

R&B and hip-hop star Chris Brown will release 'X,' his sixth studio album on July 16. Brown has stated that the new album will be less pop and more mature and soulful. His first single 'Fine China' is more mellow than his previous work and sounds similar to Bruno Mars and Michael Jackson. The album is expected to feature collaborations with many artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Pharrell. Speaking of R&B stars, Mariah Carey will release her still untitled 14th studio album on July 23. The lead single '#Beautiful' features Miguel and the album is expected to see its own fair share of collaborative efforts. R. Kelly, The-Dream, and Jermaine Dupri are just some of the names expected to be on the album.

'Home' hit-makers Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes are releasing their self-titled, 3rd album. The folk rockers are touring many festivals this summer in support of the anticipated album. Frontman Alex Ebert has stated that the songs are very personal to him. Also on tour is pop rockers Relient K who will release 'Collapsible Lung,' their seventh studio album. The band has already performed many of the songs live and has stated that the album will be more of a pop record.
