PREMIERE: Dead Messenger party their way to oblivion in “Master Plan” video

Published: May 27, 2016

A month ago, we premiered "In The Dark," a gritty track from the Montreal psych rockers Dead Messenger. The chaotic single was the first taste we got of their album, The Owl In Daylight. Today, we premiere the video for "Master Plan," a three and a half minute cut from that record, which is out today. The song is a definite change of pace, exchanging distortion for colour, slowing things down a touch and opting for clean vocals and an infectious, bouncing bassline rather than anything abrasive.

"I feel like it has this kind of O.M.D-meets-Springsteen-at-a-Clash-after-party-somewhere-in-Ashbury-Park kind of sound," says lead singer and guitarist Roger White. "At least I hope it does..."

The fun, light-hearted video shows Dead Messenger performing on stage alongside a group of quirky party goers. Disco balls, lip stick, colourful outfits, dry humping on stage... sounds about right.

"Master Plan is about Social Darwinism," writes lead singer and guitarist Roger White. "I guess it’s about excess and consumption and questioning if we’re living out some kind of Master Plan as we party ourselves into extinction. It’s also our not so subtle tribute to the Material Girl.”

If you feel like walking hand-in-hand with Dead Messenger down the celebratory pathway to extinction, you can catch them at Skull Central's headquarters in Montreal on June 17.

Dead Messenger's The Owl In Daylight is available now via Skull Central.
