Okay, this is way better than the original. River Tiber gave Selena Gomez' single the treatment it needed, bathing it in an Indigo coloured glow the same day his album Indigo finally drops. The 4-4 kick is gone, thrown out with the rest of the stiff, lifeless production of the original. Instead we get layers of rich instrumentation, crooning background vocals, and an all-around soulful vibe. Must be the analogue gear.
For a song that's basically the sonic equivalent of a 2 A.M. "Netflix & chill?" text, I have to say, this is slick. Miguel is effortlessly cool as he sings over a groovy bassline and gentle guitar strums, getting reacquainted with a "stranger" who apparently he once knew quite well. It doesn't take him long to get straight to the point, but hey, why beat around the bush?
The common theme of today's NOW HEAR THIS seems to be groovy basslines, and I'm okay with that. This one comes from Toronto producer Harrison. Ben Cook of Fucked Up lends a hand in the form of some lighthearted vocals, singing along as some subtle piano chops loop in the background. This is the kind of song you want to hear on your day off. Go lay in the park and watch the clouds go by.
