Released in the wake of the legendary rocker’s death earlier this week, “Big Boys” is the first new single we’ve heard from Chuck Berry in nearly 40 years. With an appearance from Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, the song is raucous and guitar-driven, exactly what Berry was best at, and even evokes “Johnny B. Goode” a little as it powers through its 3:05 runtime. Chuck, Berry’s first album since 1979’s Rock It, is set for release in June.
Feist came back into our lives this week, releasing her first song since the 2011 album Metals. The title track off her upcoming album, “Pleasure” fades in slowly and builds up to its triumphant climax. Feist growls her lush vocals throughout, matching the Kinks-esque guitar that kicks in at the 2-minute mark. Rawer and more rock-infused than most of her earlier work, we’ll have to wait and see if “Pleasure” sets the tone for Feist’s next album.
Imagine a world where the Nazis won World War 2, what would have happened to music? The upcoming Resistance Radio (soundtrack for Amazon’s upcoming show The Man in the High Castle) attempts to answer that question with covers like this. Olsen does earlier editions of the song justice with her version, layering her Patsy Cline-esque vocals over classic country music for a deliciously retro-sounding tune. The album, produced by the always-awesome Danger Mouse, will also feature appearances from The Shins, Beck, Sam Cohen, and Norah Jones.
Far more than just an indie rock song, CWK came back with another single in “So Tied Up” last week. Catchy and upbeat, the song’s lyrics lament the conflicted emotions that can come up in a relationship. With its catchy hook, background clapping, and guest vocals from Bishop Briggs, “So Tied Up” is a step in the right direction for CWK. Check out an acoustic version of the song below:
With only a day left until the release of his latest album, The Wild, Raekwon has dropped a remix for one of its songs, This is What it Comes Too. Ghostface’s new verse provides much of the track’s energy, book-ended by Raekwon’s threat-laden original verses and hook. The original didn’t get much fanfare after its release in January, but it could be a different story for the remix. With a guest spot by long-time friend and Wu-Tang alum Ghostface Killah, fans will be sure to want to check out this latest release from the Chef.
