Already making use of streaming platforms like YouTube Live to send the party across borders, Boiler Room wants to bring an actual rave to your living room.
Inception, a cross-platform virtual reality streaming service is their partner, having experimented with 360º video tech at a Run The Jewels concert in early March.
In a press release, Inception co-founder and CEO Benny Arbel said “Boiler Room’s Born for VR venue will be the definition of immersive - everything about this site will be meticulously planned and constructed to be a dream room for any artist to create the VR show of a lifetime.”
Inception, partners of Samsung and Oculus, are taking another step towards becoming the Netflix of virtual reality, as they told Digital Trends.
It's a natural fit for Boiler Room, which has made a name for itself as the go-to site for geographically challenged party-lovers. Now, they’re aiming to build the world’s first virtual reality concert venue — a place set up to capture and broadcast the sweat, strobes and synths and package it in a way that makes you feel like you’re really there, stepped-on toes and all.
"Building the first ever music venue born for VR is a big evolution [of our project], creating immersive online experiences that bring people even closer to what it's like being at a sweaty rave or an amazing concert half-way across the world."
As of yet, we don’t know exactly where or when the venue will be ready to go. Boiler Room says the venue should be up and running by early 2017; the shows will be streamed live via Inception’s streaming apps.
That’s the murky news. The good part is if you already have virtual reality equipment, you’re ready to watch Boiler Room’s upcoming streams. Digital Trends reports the Samsung Gear, Google Cardboard and Oculus Rift are compatible with Inception’s app out of the box, with Playstation VR and HTC Vive coming soon.
