Out of perhaps all of the bands I have photographed in my time as a concert photographer, KISS has remained elusive. For the last several years I have planned on hitting a show, always to have something else prevent me from going. Last night the stars finally aligned, if you will, and I made my way to the BOK Center in Tulsa to capture what people still say remains one of the best live performances out there.
Stationed at the front, deep in the photo pit, I was able to see first hand just why this band has remained such a force in the touring world for so long. Indeed, on their 40th Anniversary tour (!!), the band still had the arena packed to the rafters, screaming along to every word and smiling along while the band played through their hits.
As my time at the show was limited to my brief experience in the photo pit, I will instead allow the photos to do the talking. After all — after 40 years together as a band and a touring force, it is likely that all of the words have already been written about KISS. Love ‘em, hate ‘em — they are still here, and I’d say a strong four decades of touring have proven they aren’t going anywhere soon.
