In early April, Third Man Records announced the first installment of their always-special plans for Record Store Day: The World’s Fastest Record. The plan was for Jack White to ”take the stage in Third Man’s blue room and record direct-to-acetate what will serve as the limited edition version of his next single, a live rendition of the title track from his upcoming LPLazaretto. The masters will be rushed over to United Record Pressingwho will immediately begin pressing 45s. The sleeves will be printed from pictures taken at the show. The finished records will be whisked back to Third Man to sell to awaiting fans. All in the same day. All in a matter of mere hours. As long as there are fans in line waiting to buy the single, United will continue to press and deliver them to Third Man to sell. Even if it takes all day.” Check out tweets from Third Man Records down below for a recap of all of the day’s events:

White was able to come in ahead of schedule, with the records being recorded, pressed, and delivered for sale in under four hours (3:55:21 to be exact), the title track from White’s upcoming album,Lazaretto occupying the a-side while a cover of Elvis Presley’sPower of My Love filled the b-side. With this timing, White and Third Man Records have broken the Guinness World Record that was set, according to Rolling Stone,by Vollgas Kompanie,aSwiss polka trio who issued their albumLivethe day after they recorded it.
In a press conference after the achievement, White disclosed that “Originally, we were just gonna do this record and go back to sleep.” However, White and Co. played an hour-long set that resembled the set from theBlunderbuss tour, consisting of solo tracks as well as tracks from White’s various projects.
With the approaching release of Lazarretto,Jack White is set to head out on tour once again, the dates for which you can find over at White’sofficial site.
