Footage From Eli Roth & Marilyn Manson’s “Too Sick” Video Featuring Lana Del Rey Apparently Surfaces

Published: November 20, 2014

This is a strangely developing story. Hostel director / bear Jew Eli Roth once divulged to Larry King that he filmed a video with Marilyn Manson and Lana Del Rey that was “so sick” it had to be locked up in a vault. Today, some of that footage apparently surfaced, only to be quickly taken down. Shortly thereafter, Marilyn Manson’s representatives released a statement disavowing him of any involvement in the video whatsoever. We have the footage here:

The controversial footage features a simulated rape scene between Roth and Del Rey, as well as Manson perched on a rooftop with a sniper rifle, appearances by Twiggy Ramirez, and some assorted viciously violent images. As Pitchfork reports:

“Manson did not direct this, shoot it, nor was it for a Marilyn Manson video or outtake footage made by him or to be used by him with his music,” said Manson’s representative, Kathryn Frazier of Biz3. “It must be a fan video splicing up old Manson video footage with someone else’s Lana Del Rey footage.”

But we find that extremely hard to believe, as there is clearly original footage of Roth and Lana featured (and possibly Manson*), and Roth’s references to the footage in the Larry King interview were in no unclear terms.

I suppose there’s a possibility that an extremely creative fan somehow approximated the footage based on Roth’s description in an elaborate ploy for attention. The video was seemingly presented as a demo reel for an organization called “Sturmgruppe” who could conceivably be CGI wizards. But that seems like a pretty big stretch.

Despite the inevitable hand-wringing and outrage about the video encouraging actual rape and other such crazy shit, it’s a pretty intense and artistically valuable clip, with great cinematography (which also lends to the theory of it being a legit Eli Roth production), and gold-standard Marilyn Manson creepy/snuff/controversy.

* We realize that a lot of the footage of Manson is seen in the videos for No Reflection and Slo-Mo-Tion. However, there seem to be shots that weren’t included in those videos, and the collaboration with Eli Roth pre-dates both videos, so recycling could conceivably have gone in either direction.
