Hip-Hop Community Responds To The Murder Of Kajieme Powell In St. Louis

A week after the murder of Michael Brown at the hands a police officer in Ferguson,Kajieme Powell was gunned done in St. Louis. The 25-year-old African American male wasshot and killed by St. Louis police officers Tuesday (August 19).

According to reports,Powell was armed with a knife when approached by two police officers due to erratic behavior. He was told to “drop the knife” before being shot multiple times.Yesterday (August 20), St. Louis police released a cell phone video capturing the incident from a distance. While St. Louis Police Department Chief Sam Dotsonclaims the video demonstrates that law enforcement acted appropriately to the situation, the hip-hop community has had a different response. Artists such as Ice-T, Yung Joc and Diddy took to Twitter to share the chilling video. For many they believe the incident other further shows the prevalence of police brutality.
