Red Bull’s latest installation of it’s “30 Days in LA” series kicked off this weekend, and the sold out day 3 of the month-long marathon of events hosted electronic duo Sylvan Esso at the Fonda. With support from neo-soul siren AKUA and house prodigy Race Banyon, singer Amelia Meath and producer Nick Sanborn had the packed house swaying from the first song.
Swathed in jewels and feathery silk, Meath popped, locked and swerved to Sanborn’s pulsating rhythms, flashing her affable grin as the crooned her way through songs from their debut album. With Sanborn hunkered down behind his laptop, Meath was free to dance and twirl the night away under the flashing lights. Opening with “Could I Be,” Meath’s effervescent vocals looped and soared over Sanborn’s plinking beats and bellowing synths. Before diving into “Dress” (a song about putting on your best clothes and “seducing yourself in the mirror”), she let everyone know that a good amount of duct tape had gone into finagling her way into that billowy outfit; it’s that charming honesty that was so appealing to their blissful audience.
Meath and Sanborn were completely in sync on stage, and it showed in the effortless way they grooved together, she taking the stage with her dance moves and he manning the boards and bopping to the beat. With this being the last night of their tour, the duo showed their gratitude to their fans by premiering a few new tracks, teasers of what’s to come when they head back to the studio. Closing out with hit single “Play It Right,” they brought their tour to a fittingly joyous close surrounded by loving fans. -NATASHA AFTANDILIANS
