Major League Soccer is set to add four new teams to its league over the next three years, and the new franchise set to land in Austin, Texas has named Matthew McConaughey as a new member of its ownership group.

The actor was revealed as a part-owner of Austin FC today by the expansion club's parent company Two Oak Ventures. The team is set to make its MLS debut in 2021.

"Austin FC is more than a quality investment FOR Austin, it's a quality investment IN Austin," McConaughey said in a statement. "The most diverse and borderless game in the world is now coming to one of the most multicultural, creative and diverse cities in the world. Austin FC is a healthy investment in our city's culture and future."

McConaughey is often spotted on the sidelines of football and basketball games at his alma mater University of Texas, where he is also recognized as the "Minister of Culture." Earlier this year, he was spotted with Will Ferrell at an LAFC game, a franchise of which Ferrell is also a part owner.

Toronto's MLS franchise, Toronto FC, became the first Canadian team to win the MLS Cup in 2017. Canada is also home to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the Montreal Impact.
