John Carpenter Revisits His Greatest Works with 'Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998'

Having explored plenty of Lost Themes over his last few releases, John Carpenter has now turned his attention to rerecording some of his greatest hits for a new release.

Titled Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998, the album will arrive October 20 through Sacred Bones. The collection brings together 13 classic themes from Carpenter's career rerecorded with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies. The two had worked with the elder Carpenter on both Lost Themes and Lost Themes II.

Among the many works included on the new collection are reworks of themes from such Carpenter classics as The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, Escape from New York, Dark Star, They Live, Christine and more.

Ahead of Anthology's arrival, Carpenter has shared the rerecording of the theme from 1994 horror film In the Mouth of Madness. 

"I worked on the soundtrack for In the Mouth of Madness with Jim Lang," the composer said in a statement. "We never came up with a great main title theme. ... I came up with a heavy metal theme inspired by Metallica's 'Enter Sandman.' My friend Dave Davies played lead guitar, and now, over 20 years later, his son Daniel is playing the lead. [It's] one of my favourite themes."

Carpenter has also announced a tour in support of the record, which includes two dates in Canada. He'll play Toronto's Danforth Music Hall on November 12 before playing Montreal's Metropolis on November 13.
