Not long after its sudden closure earlier this month, Hugh's Room announced that a committee was in place to start work on a plan to restructure and reopen. Now, the group has revealed that the venue is aiming to reopen as early as March depending on the success of an fundraising effort.

The Toronto Star reports that the venue's target date to reopen is March 3, with the committee looking to raise $150,000. The date coincides with a CD release event from Canadian country outfit the Good Brothers that the venue had already booked.

"[March 3] is our goal and we're hopeful, but a lot of fundraising has to happen between now and then," committee spokesperson Grit Laskin told the newspaper, adding that the sum is "more than is critically needed... but it would be a cushion to see us through establishing a new organization... to create a non-profit community organization that will eventually take over running the club and the venue."

Laskin told the paper that the money would help cover staff pay, kitchen upgrades, outstanding bills, rent, and ticket and booking-fee refunds, among other costs. The Star also reports that more details on the fundraising efforts will be revealed later this week.

As previously reported, the committee has set the long-term goal of having Hugh's Room "move forward under proposed community-ownership structure and the will is strong to make that happen sooner than later." Laskin said that "the outpouring of support has been astounding."
