Gucci Mane Readies "Blunt and Candid" Autobiography

From his early Trap House success to his recent positive lifestyle changes, Gucci Mane has remained one of rap music's most influential figures. Now, the Southern hip-hop icon is set to tell his story in a new autobiography.

Taking to Twitter today (March 20), the rapper announced the release of The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, written by both himself and former XXL music editor Neil Martinez-Belkin. An Amazon pre-order reveals the book's release date to be September 19, arriving through Simon & Schuster

A description for the book reveals that Gucci Mane began penning the tome in 2016 while still in prison, calling the collection "a blunt and candid account — an instant classic."

"For the first time Gucci Mane tells his story in his own words," the description reads. "In his extraordinary autobiography, the legend takes us to his roots in Alabama, the streets of East Atlanta, the trap house, and the studio where he found his voice as a peerless rapper. He reflects on his inimitable career and in the process confronts his dark past — years behind bars, the murder charge, drug addiction, career highs and lows — the making of a trap god. It is one of the greatest comeback stories in the history of music."

Gucci named Canadian Malcolm Gladwell as his favourite author last October, having read works such as BlinkOutliers and The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference.
