Dr. Dre is the latest name to be linked to a
Marvin Gaye biopic.
Variety reports that the rapper and producer is in "the early stages of getting the project off the ground," adding that the rights to use Gaye's music have been secured.
As mentioned above, numerous attempts to present Gaye's life as a biopic have been negated by the singer's family. Jamie Foxx was last given the green light for a limited series towards the end of 2016, with
Variety reporting the project has seen no movement since it was announced.
Dre served as a producer on 2015's
Straight Outta Compton, which chronicled the rise of his hip-hop group N.W.A.
Variety also notes that Dre is represented by legal firm King, Holmes, Paterno & Soriano, who defended
Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams against Gaye's estate in
the infamous "Blurred Lines" trial.
