Baptists Beacon of Faith

Baptists return with Beacon of Faith, their first record in four years and even with years between records, the band still have the same vigour they've had since the start. That said, they aren't reinventing the wheel here, instead showing everyone why they are one of the best in the game when it comes to hardcore music.

This album is all about the dissonant guitar riffs. In true hardcore fashion, all the riffs are quick and dirty; no idea meanders for too long. Tracks like "Bevel Down" and "Gift Taker" exemplify Bapists' ability to balance dissonant and melodic riffs perfectly.

Nick Yacyshyn's drumming is consistent and doesn't get overly complicated; it's the star of the album on tracks like "Vicarious Trauma" and "Capsule." The drumming fills out the sound left open by the rest of the band.

Baptists' Beacon of Faith balances aggression and melody in a way that few others can. Everything on this record is well thought-out and nothing overstays its welcome. In a sea of imitators, Baptists reign supreme.
