Post Malone Is Getting Slammed For Saying People Shouldn’t Listen To Hip-Hop

Published: November 22, 2017

US rapper and ‘Rockstar’ hitmaker Post Malone has come under fire for a string of awkward comments about the current state of hip-hop, claiming in a recent interview that the genre lacks good lyrics and emotion.

Malone, who’s currently touring his acclaimed debut record Stoney, was speaking to Polish outlet NewOnce when he warned his fans not to listen to the genre if they’re “looking to think about life.”

“If you’re looking for lyrics, if you’re looking to cry, if you’re looking to think about life, don’t listen to hip-hop,” he told the interviewer. “There’s great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they spit that real shit, but right now, there’s not a lot of people talking about shit.

“Whenever I want to cry,” he continued, “whenever I want to sit down and have a nice cry, I’ll listen to some Bob Dylan. But whenever I’m trying to have a good time and stay in a positive mood, I listen to hip-hop because it’s fun. I think hip-hop is important because it brings people together in a beautiful, happy way. Everybody’s happy.”

Apparently, Post Malone has never listened to Kendrick Lamar. Or Kanye West. Or J. Cole.

Predictably, the internet wasn’t wild about his comments:

The rapper has since hit back at detractors on Twitter:

It’s not the first time Malone — real name Austin Post — has found himself on the wrong side of the internet recently. Just days ago he was criticised for a strange interview with Rolling Stone, in which he excitedly showed off his large arsenal of guns to the interviewer.

When asked about his infamous interview with radio host Charlamagne — in which Malone was questioned about his support for the Black Lives Matter movement — the rapper told Rolling Stone: “[Charlamagne’s] not a good person. He hates me because I’m white and I’m different. But we’re still rocking and we’re still successful, and he can’t stop it.”
