Sach: Uncensored – User Sputlight #5

Published: September 24, 2016

Greetings fellow users! As some of you are aware, I’ve started a little user review competition in which the winner receives an automatic feature, as well as a “user spotlight” session. It basically consists of an informal chat in which I ask some personal questions as well as some silly ones.

This week was user Sachismo Ignatius aka iloveyouall aka Livingthrowawayylmao. He won the challenge for his middled review for the new Aine O’Dwyer album, Gegenschein (here).

Excerpt:
“Much like the mysterious counterglow that its title refers to, Gegenschein is but a hazy image of its precursor. Although O’Dwyer’s approach to pipe organ-improvisation — meanderingly melodic, hypnotic and yet dynamic — remains largely the same, the subtle, inexplicable magic that imbued both volumes of her cult-classic, Music For Church Cleaners, finds itself absent. Instead, Gegenschein seems an image of a frustrated improviser: O’Dwyer at odds with the instrument she’s previously controlled with ease.” (Basically the review.)

This week I drew the short straw and got stuck interviewing Sach; conversely, he pulled triple 7s and got me.

Sach’s muse

Tristan: So you’re Australian. Elaborate 8 ]

iloveyouall: yeah, it’s amazing huh? it’s like no other place on earth really. the people have skin, teeth, eyeballs, and seem to communicate via enthusiastic yells of, “fuck yeah aye cunt mate fuckin single pegsss.” yet, this transforms immediately once the dietary staples of “v-bangas” and “duzzas” are bought into play. those that are too hasty in sharing their lighter end up with their teeth on the floor, and those that don’t “buy a fuckin round for the boys” become social pariahs due to their choice to disobey the australian social norms. furthermore, the animals are quite remarkable. i’ve seen crocodiles rape women in the streets, spiders kill people in my lectures. it’s fucking insane. and then there’s the politics (but i’ll save you cunts the sob story)… long story short, it’s the best worst place on earth, i’m more unique than you because i’m australian and y’all can get fucked if you think otherwise. please come visit sometime! : )

tite. crocodiles are rad.
What’s your favourite Aussie one-man drone/folk/battle-jacket project?

that’s quite a tough question actually. i know of quite a few budding “upstarts” in the field, and although there may be some quite obvious names that may come to mind, i think i’d have to crown the best australian one-man drongo/folk/battle-jacket project to none other than vance joy. he is much better than michael “that’s not a cumstain on my possessed patch, i swear” snoxxxy snoxxalll.

if you haven’t jammed it folks, get on riptide. you’ll be swimming in faux-hipster indie girl clunge in no time guaranteeeeed.

sick. drongos are pretty cool birds.

You started a tournament of sorts to highlight the user base’s sense of comradery; how did it turn out?

it turned out quite well i think. in recent times especially, i’ve noticed a trend towards users being absolute shit, and as such, i believe that it is time for CLEANSING of the userbase (for the betterment of the present, as well as fortification of the future of sputnikmusic). creating the worst users list was only the beginning of my conquest. there is much more to come. for those terrible users that wish to know who they are and what they should do, here is a list of names, as well as a method for self-improvement:

(Oh shiiii (all my hustlers are) gettin’ it):

shit users:
angrylittleautist
linkinparkforthewin
pansyflower (if you shape up your game you may redeem yourself), and all other lame-ass bandcampcore users
miketannoissppooge
angrylittleadolf (see pansy)
smaugman (i recommend you find a good therapist tbqh)
all other prog-daddy users that are not fripp and/or kewl
and others (whom i will shoutbox if the curiosity remains)

method for self-improvement:
1. logging off permanently
2. maturation/puberty/therapy (whichever fits)
3. migration to metallum/progarchives/rac forums
4. potential possibility for return after previous 3 steps are accomplished
5. full redemption via written apology to sput user base

So was LivingThrowaway your first account?

no it wasn’t (as i have mentioned before)… i actually had a few before then (although memory is very scratchy on most of the deets)…. the earliest i can remember is username: jjmcjizzle. it was during the peak of my dxc years, but i did show little glimpses of the present me during that time (most notably in my penchant for disingenuity and all that). i feel like there was one before that, but i’m fucked for details.

“most notably in my penchant for disingenuity and all that” I feel like a lot of users have a “shtick” that is both disingenuous and unrelentingly honest. I think it’s something users gradually pick up on and, to some extent, appreciate. It’s a way to convey a sort of parody of how you might genuinely feel, and say things you actually mean.

i think a lot of the cynicism comes with time, yeah. you either get weeded out or you become scathing af like the rest of us. it’s a kind of rite of passage i guess… i mean, that account ended up with me leaving because fucking pit (who was going by frankredrocket or something like that) back then hounded me non-fucking stop. and me being 13/14 got the shits and fucked off for a year or two, but it was what i needed to become the throwaway i was less than a year later.

Yeah, most of the site’s more acerbic personalities can probably attest to that sorta experience. I went through the gauntlet of troll hermitage in the YahooAnswers Rock and Pop section way back when, lol.
But ofc I’m a sweetheart still.

one of the few “””truly””” kind souls still roaming around these parts after all these years… god bless

You rep a lot of fairly ‘unsung’ artists and styles on sput (slam, PE, hnw, trap rap). Do you plan on focusing on that sort’ve thing in the webzine you’re starting?

for sure. i guess the main reason i’m starting the zine is because i feel as though, for all my trying, i don’t (read: can’t) bring the sorta “left-of-centre” stuff that i love so dearly the kind of exposure i “feel” it needs writing on sput. so obviously it will be a platform for me to rep that shit harder than ever, but as well as that, i feel like it’ll provide a bit of a platform to branch into other forms of art that i feel intertwine with music very closely (esp: literature and performance art)…

What’ll be the name?

well, originally i was thinking something that’d be unequivocally “sach”, but then i realised that’s kinda self-serving af, and seeing as the whole concept is sachcentric enough as is, and that i’m going to have other writers, i opened it up for suggestions. and after many fantastic suggestions (father’s office, another space, and little vibrations all noteworthy) — the name became

expressions of interest
smfh :’ /

Father’s Office was easily the best.

s/o to my boy hal for that one

I think the three-song shuffle is becoming a staple for this user interview thing, so let’s see it; boot up your windows media player.

fuck yeah

scared of you – young thug
passacaglia for orchestra, op. 1 – pierre boulez/anton webern
icon of a headless whore – excoriation

no noise : |

Any users that you think don’t get enough shine?

okay okay, shoutout to the gang (phil lives on), slackened, hal, cyg, punt (wherever he may be), johnald, aaronkrc, oltna, josh rhodes and everyone that’s 5’d sachiko m – bar. i truly love you all!

Yeah Josh and Aaron are goat underrated users.
Sach ~persona~ aside, you’re a pretty good writer. We voted for your review because we thought you captured a nice short-n-sweet style while still being engaging and thoughtful. Do you have a writing process? Or do you mostly wing it?

i normally listen to the album a few times straight up, then sit on it (to actually see if it stimulates any kind of thought), wait a few days, and then, if it does “get me going” so to speak, i just bust out my ideas in a 30-minute burst of inspiration. if it doesn’t happen then, it won’t happen ever, so it’s a bit all or nothing, but ehh, it’s worked so far… also means i don’t end up forcing out christopher geriaks or ben kuettels. i will admit, i forced out the gegenschein review to land myself this, but that was just because i accidentally picked an album that didn’t do anything for me (whoops)

What are some things you’d change about the site? 110% hypothetical, of course.

first of all, i’d change the name of the owner of the site from jeremy ferwerda to jeremy ignatius jackson, and then i’d promote myself to moderator staff emeritus (which would provide me the necessary leverage to undertake the sput CLEANSING). from there, i would restructure the site so that it would be known as more than, “the least professional reviewing site.”
all jokes aside, i think the biggest changes need to be those in regards to the structure of the database (so it can accommodate singles, mixes, classical compositions and all that), as well as pretty big changes to the way writing about music is perceived (the idea of a “review” seems to strict for me — hell, i got fucking banned by sowing for writing something too ~risquee~)… shit like that really. as well as the CLEANSING, of course.

What are some new/upcoming albums Sput should get woke to? We talked about a new Caretaker and new Yves Tumor prior to the interview; any others?

hmmm, the neverending wait for a second sosa tape in 2016 continues, the rumours of an ecco2k junt keep resurfacing, fresh celer comin’ out every day like mega-processed white bread, etc… that kinda shit aside, new wop and ichiko aoba next month, a junko collab at the end of the month and a fresh vomir split just out.

— aaand that’s it. sweet. thx for playin.

np fam. now i can consider my ego well and truly stroked~~~
