This week's top tune is by arguably one of the best known ska and reggae groups of all time, Toots and the Maytals, and their cover of Bobby Hebb's iconic R&B/pop tune "Sunny". The Maytals' seminal and distinctly Jamaican sound blends mento, folk, and gospel influences into a powerful sound that, while rooted in rural traditions, delivers a completely modern feeling. Throughout the 1960's this sound - featuring the inimitable Toots Hibbert on lead vocals - propelled the group to being the biggest selling musical act Jamaica had ever known at that time, and they are still going strong today. "Sunny" was recorded between tours at Toots Hibbert's family studio in Kingston, Jamaica in October 2011 and arranged and mixed by Jeremy Page in Brooklyn, NY.
