On her new album Stitch of the World, Tift Merritt adapts the lyrics of this week's stunner of a top tune from the late, great short-story writer Raymond Carver. His poem "My Boat" was written in Port Angeles in the spring of 1984. There will be room for all his friends on this boat, no one will be denied. With Carver's All of Us: The Collected Poems in hand, this poem for Tift "leapt up like lightning". Its message of kinship and inclusion is offered in a time of great division in our country and "it makes it just a little bit easier to believe that scars do heal and love soldiers on". - Slant Magazine.
