PANGAEA Kill It In This Exclusive Drum Playthrough of “AOKIGAHARA”

Published: May 23, 2017

Wisconsin-based prog metal group Pangaea have been taking the Midwest metal scene by storm during the past few years. Combining technical proggy riffage with well thought-out compositional elements, these dudes have cultivated an extremely loyal fanbase that seems to only get bigger and bigger. Now you may be thinking to yourself “Wisconsin? What else is in Wisconsin besides cheese curds and football?”. Well, that’s pretty much about it, but what more do you need?

In this playthrough, drummer Michael DeMarco lays down some insanely complex rhythms on the song “Aokigahara” off the band’s 2015 EP Roots. Named after the infamous “Suicide Forest” in Japan, the track is jam-packed with all kinds of musical twists and turns, from crushing breakdowns to lush melodic passages. If you’re into bands like Between the Buried and Me or Protest the Hero, this is definitely gonna be your jam. Drums for this song were mixed by the band’s very own bassist Spencer Fox of No Passenger Studio. Is there anything these guys can’t do?

The band is currently preparing for the Hot Nights and City Lights Tour in June alongside post-hardcore act Softspoken. Dates and venues are listed below. For all things Pangaea, be sure to hit up their Facebook and Storenvy for all kinds of sick goodies.
