FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd has revealed that, according to his unnamed sources, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will fight in Las Vegas this September.

Speaking on the most recent episode of his show, The Herd, Cowherd said:

“My intel is Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is going to happen. It changed late last week. I got a call then somebody else sent me something yesterday and Saturday (saying)… we’ve booked rooms in Vegas.”

He then goes on to say that the fight will take place on the weekend of September 17 and that, while he doesn’t think it will be a good fight, it will definitely be “an event.”

Now, as exciting as the news would be, all of it must be taken with a pinch of salt. It’s no secret that since Cowherd’s move to FOX, he’s had a propensity towards making semi-controversial, headline-grabbing statements (he also advocated for the NBA removing the three point shot, just yesterday). UFC president Dana White said there is “no way in hell” the fight will take place. And that’s without even taking into consideration the difficulties involved in developing rules for the fight.

What’s for certain is that, if the fight was to go ahead, everybody involved would make a fortune. Which, in the world of combat sports, might just be enough to make it happen.
