Chris Hemsworth Stars in Post-9/11 War Drama ’12 Strong’

Published: October 19, 2017

Chris Hemsworth stars alongside Michael Shannon in award-winning director Nicolai Fuglsig’s upcoming drama, 12 Strong. Centering around true events, the film is based on the best-selling book, Horse Soldiers, by Doug Stanton.

Following the tragedy of 9/11, a U.S. Special Forces team, led by new Captain Mitch Nelson (Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent to Afghanistan. There, they then must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum to join forces against a common foe: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. This in turn forces the Americans to adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghani horse soldiers.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the two groups of troops must come together to overtake a common, blood-thirsty enemy.

Joining Hemsworth and Shannon are Michael Peña, Austin Stowell, Trevante Rhodes, Rob Riggle, Elsa Pataky and Taylor Sheridan, as 12 Strong is due in theaters January 18.
