Japandroids now. The National later.

I’m going to be really honest. I don’t like Japandroids all that much. Now, wait wait wait. It’s OK. It’s just not my type of music. They are super talented and they make a unique sound, it’s just not for me. If you said they’re your favorite band, I wouldn’t give you a hard time.

Still, I am going to the show tonight. There’s some type of cyclical relationship that I don’t fully understand. But it’s there. Bigger bands, more people, more money, better scene, more venues, more local acts – it all builds on itself.

Japandroids are signed to Polyvinyl and booked by Windish Agency.

Look at the other bands on those lists. If you like them, you should be at this show and you should be telling everyone you know to go and you should be buying shirts and CDs and posters and drinks.

Because, sadly, that’s the way it works. I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble here, but it’s about money. They are sending us a test. And we’re trying to get an A.

Ideal conversation #1:

“Here’s our numbers from last night Mr. Moon”

“Oh wow! This is great. We should definitely bring more bands like this here every night”

Ideal conversation #2:

“Here’s our numbers from the tour Mr. Windish”

“Oh wow, look at Baton Rouge! They exceeded our expectations!”

“Yeah! They were great! A ton of really friendly excited people came out and bought a crapload of merch. Everyone had a blast! They sure love their music down there”

“That’s good to hear. Maybe we’ll send [insert favorite band] there after all”
