Kanye West and Rick Rubin Team With Mark Romanek on Crazy Award Acceptance Speech Video

The Tribeca Film Festival is currently taking place in New York City. As part of the fest's Disruptive Innovation Awards, tomorrow at NYU, Kanye West and producer Rick Rubin were meant to accept an award on behalf of the recently revived Roland TR-808 drum machine. However, as Rolling Stone reports, they'll be taking a more experimental approach. Since West and Rubin can't be present, a bizarrely-orchestrated video collage will be played in their place.

The video was directed by Mark Romanek, who mixed interviews with Rubin and West with found footage and archival videos, includingone of Laurel and Hardy, who are now dancing to "I'm in It" fromYeezus.

Somehow, the concept did not leave Rubin and West completely speechless, as the video includes statements from them both: "Kanye and I would like to give thanks on behalf of the Roland TR-808 drum machine," reads Rubin's message. "It continues to be responsible for new music some 30 years after its release and discontinuation." West says, "Thank you very much."
