MISSBISH Editorial 10 | Vancouver-Based Photographer, Dorothy Zhang Hits the Streets of NYC

Published: November 19, 2016

Vancouver-based photographer and stylist, Dorothy Zhang  roamed the streets of NYC to bring us our latest MISSBISH editorial. Zhang  is known for her creative direction and aesthetic, she is not afraid to be bold and step outside of the norm.

Zhang shot and styled Taylor Allard of Ford Models in two outfits using a variety of contemporary brands. In the first look, she styled Allard in a Supreme jacket, Diesel jeans, Maison Margiela boots, and a shirt from her personal street wear brand READING CLUB.

For the second look, Allard is styled wearing an UNDERCOVER jacket, Diesel jeans, READING CLUB shirt, and Margiela boots. Although some of these pieces are perceived as masculine, Zhang redefines gender norms and creates an androgenous aesthetic.

We had a chance to talk to Dorothy about her inspiration for the shoot and why she chose to shoot Taylor. Read the interview below!

What was your biggest inspiration for this shoot and the feeling that you wanted to portray?
I’m really into the off-kilter look right now. I really wanted to capture the ambiguous look of Taylor. A little obscure, a little weird and uncomfortable is what I wanted. My biggest inspiration was really just Taylor, she has a tremendously bold personality and characteristics that translate very well in photographs. And we had so much fun shooting it.

What inspired this outfit?
I think the clothes that I chose are very cohesive with her look. Very punk – a very “I don’t fuck with you” mood.

What are other alternative ways that this outfit can be styled?
The two jackets are such statement pieces, so I would keep the rest of the outfit simple and clean.
