See How Pharrell Williams Vibed With Dim Mak Crew WatchTheDuck

Published: January 27, 2016

2015 was a pretty killer year for the Dim Mak-backed team WatchTheDuck, whose sound occupies a between-genre place they call “soulstep.” (You might know them from 2012’s “Poppin’ Off,” a track that, yes, popped off.) The Alabama group’s second EP, The Trojan Horse, came out last November, featuring collaborations with the likes of SchoolBoy Q, T.I., Steve Aoki, Afrojack, and Pharrell Williams. The team-up with Pharrell, “Stretch 2-3-4,” also turned up on a Samsung commercial.

Now WatchTheDuck have revealed the first episode in a new video series called Inside The Trojan Horse, which you can watch above. This look behind the scenes tracks their working relationship with Pharrell, who they first hooked up with in Atlanta, Georgia after a set at TomorrowWorld in 2013. Pharrell was a fan of their sound, and they were soon vibing in the studio. Before long, they had “Stretch 2-3-4” underway.

As Pharrell puts it in this video, “There’s something very pure, very untainted [about WatchTheDuck’s music]. When I hear it, I hear something new and just completely alien from everyone.” Watch episode one of Inside The Trojan Horse above, in which you’ll also find out why they’re called WatchTheDuck.
