Police claim to have caught a major break in the long unsolved murder of Metallica fan Morgan Harrington.

According to WTVR.com, a man suspected in the abduction earlier this month of an 18-year-old girl named Hannah Graham from Charlottesville, Virginia, has been forensically linked to the 2009 disappearance of Morgan Harrington.

Harrington was 20 and wearing a Pantera shirt when she disappeared from a Metallica concert.

Her remains were found in a field months later.

“Last week, the arrest of Jesse L. Matthew Jr., 32, of Charlottesville, Va., provided a significant break in [the Harrington] case with a new forensic link for state police investigators to pursue,” Virginia State Police said in a statement.

“There is a still a great deal of work to be done in regards to this investigation and we appreciate the publics patience as we move forward.”

Morgan’s mother, Gil Harrington, said:

“We worked five years to get to this point, so we are relieved.”

Harrington was last seen hitchhiking back to school.

Metallica stepped up efforts to find information about the Virginia Tech student’s disappearance from their show by offering a substantial reward in the case.
