The organisers of Supersonic Festival have teamed up with Milque And Muhle Records to present the Xmas Cocktail, a full day of adventurous music spread across two stages in the Hare & Hounds in Birmingham, featuring performances from sludge misanthropes Palehorse, oddball noise collective Sly And The Family Drone, vicious hardcore troupe The Lowest Form and many more.

Palehorse have arrived at a somewhat unusual setup to unleash their own unique brand of sludgy, low end filth, consisting of drums, two bass guitars, and a pair of vocalists that you certainly wouldn’t want to bump into in a dark alley after a night on the town. After a decade of noise making, the quintet have recently released what has to be their tightest, angriest and most definitive statement so far in the form of the crushing full-length ‘Harm Starts Here’. Their live shows are sweaty, visceral and louder than a nuclear bomb, to the point that their original vocalist developed tinnitus so badly that he had to leave the band. So yeah, probably best to bring the earplugs along for these guys…

Sly And The Family Drone are an equally beguiling proposition, as any of you caught their insane set at this year’s Supersonic will attest. Setting up in the middle of the room, two of ‘em began kicking out all manner of synapse frying noise, flanked by a drummer and a manic bearded fellow who screamed himself hoarse, stripped down to his boxers and clambered all over the surrounding amps, spitting beer and hurling pizza around with wild abandon. Various parts of the drum kit were gradually handed over to the crowd, and then – well, it’s probably easier just to watch the ensuing carnage below…

The rest of the lineup is completed by The Lowest Form (who have just released a full-length via the ever reputable Iron Lung Records), jazzy post punk outfit Ravioli Me Away, electronic maverick Paddy Steer, garage rock duo Table Scraps and nasty sludge group Rainbow Grave.

The Xmas Cocktail is due to take place at the Hare & Hounds in Birmingham on December 13th. Advanced tickets are available online here, or directly from Milque & Muhle Records at the Custard Factory.
