Listen to the Defeated Sanity track ‘The Quest for Non-existence’ taken from the band’s album ‘Disposal Of The Dead/Dharmata’ released 22 July on Willowtip. ‘Disposal Of The Dead/Dharmata’ is the band’s first album since 2013’s ‘Passages Into Deformity’. You can buy ‘Disposal Of The Dead/Dharmata’ here.

The new album is an 11-track full-length that is essentially a split release with themselves. ‘Disposal Of The Dead’ is Defeated Sanity in their most primal form: a caveman-esque display of audio barbarity, that is stripped down, raw, and unrelenting. Whereas ‘Dharmata’ is an homage to old school progressive death metal: jazzy guitar runs, flip-flopping time signatures, and songs that stretch past the 5-minute mark.

The band recruited vocalist Max Phelps (Exist, Cynic, Death To All) for the ‘Dharmata’ side of this release, and he is featured on this track.

Speaking about the release, bass player Jacob said:

“This song features some older ideas that I had with classic ’80s Prog-Thrash Metal in mind. It’s maybe the most grotesque and experimental song on Dharmata with tons of changes and intricate twists. The beginning for example starts with a classic thrash theme, then morphs into hectic breaks and finally leads into a calm acoustical interlude before it then leads on into the ‘chorus’.”

“One of my favourite moments of the album is how the ending riff goes completely nuts, almost obnoxiously demanding the listener’s ear, but then descends into the quietest part of the album, which is the intro of ‘Return to Samsara’.”

Drummer Lille Gruber said:

“This song starts with a theme that has been generated out of one of Jacob’s motives used in “At one with wrath” which is the song that’s right before (this was a great way to let the “story continue”). While in “At one with wrath” it appeared in a 5/8 meter (and also in a whole tone step form in the middle) in “Quest” it takes on a more traditional form. The thrashy riff that was generated was arranged to be used for a good ol AB AB (Verse Bridge Verse Bridge) vocal part, to start off the song in a very aggressive manner, before a tonal modulation brings harmonic AND rhythmic change and the song completely abandons its original character. I love the diversity of form u can choose from when your writing real underground Metal music.”
