Desertfest’s official pre-party kicks off tonight at the Black Heart, and the festival itself begins in less than 24 hours! Are you excited yet? If not, then it’s time to get in the mood by blasting a bit of Kvelertak…

S ska me pula Odins enka, nens me re riff ska sjenka (from the song Mjd), meaning then were fucking Odins widow, while were playing badass riffs is just about the only thing we can make out from Kvelertaks extensive back catalogue of songs, all written exclusively in Norwegian (the band have claimed they have no intention to ever publish any of their lyrics!). Aside from being lyrical geniuses, the six-piece rain chaos upon audiences the world over with their frenzied blend of black metal, hardcore and rock n roll.

Kvelertak (Norwegian for stranglehold) have put out two albums since their inception back in 2007; 2010s self-titled album, which earned them the recognition they rightly deserve, and Meir which was released last year. The band has won two Spellerman Awards, as well as being used on the soundtrack for the movie ‘Trollhunter’ if thats not enough, its rumoured the Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon is a fan and watched them perform in San Francisco.

Still not impressed? Come see for yourself, as the band tear up the Electric Ballroom on the Saturday of Desertfest.
