With little over a week to go until Bloodstock Festival begins, our countdown continues with a look at haunting, melodic doom quartet Alunah, who’ll be playing the Sophie Lancaster stage on Sunday, August 9th…
Birmingham’s Alunah have come a long way since their ‘Crystal Voyage’ demo back in 2007, steadily working their way to becoming a highly revered force amidst the UK’s current doom landscape. Last year’s ‘Awakening The Forest’ was arguably their strongest to date; featuring a thick, booming production from Esoteric‘s Greg Chandler and stunning artwork courtesy of Michael Cowell, it’s a definite career highlight for Alunah. The songs are more well crafted, the melodies are more evocative, the riffs are even heavier and vocalist Sophie Day sounds stronger than ever.
As anyone who’s had the pleasure of catching them live since then will attest, on stage is when the band truly come into their own. Alunah will be playing just before Ol Drake on the Sophie Lancaster stage this year, so make sure you rouse yourself from your tent bright and early on Sunday to catch them – you won’t regret it…
