Beyond Grace have released a lyric video for the track ‘Omega Point’. We asked singer Andy Walmsley about the inspiration behind ‘Omega Point’ and he had this to say:
With writing sessions for our album coming to a close, and having not released any new music (bar a few snippets here and there) since last year’s “Monstrous” EP, we felt like we really wanted to put out something to showcase how much we’ve grown and progressed since then… something to hint at where we’re going and something to showcase a more professional and overall more powerful sound.
The song itself was actually one of the first “new” tracks written to form part of the upcoming album, and we basically knew right from the start that it was going to serve as the album’s finale. It’s got a great mix of (almost) everything we love about our sound, and allows us to demonstrate a lot of different facets and elements which you can expect on the rest of the album.
As to what it’s about? Well it’s based on the idea (coined by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin – who’s quoted at the start of the video) that the universe is in a state of constant forward motion, growing towards a point of ultimate and infinite complexity and consciousness – the Omega Point. It’s a theory which has been embraced by both religious and non-religious thinkers and philosophers alike, as a potential explanation for the existence of human consciousness, as well as popping up in a lot of “Hard” Science Fiction.
Whether it’s interpreted as somehow representing “God”, or as the ultimate form of transhuman evolution, it just seemed like the perfect concept to tie everything together, as the album as a whole is concerned with the nature and the exploration of humanity, and the search for answers. And the “Omega Point” is just one such potential answer.
The track itself was mixed and mastered by James Stephenson of Stymphalian Productions, and is available on a “Pay What You Want” basis over at our Bandcamp page.
The lyric video itself was put together by the inimitable Mr. Kevin Desjardin, who’s also worked with bands like Bloodbath and Extol, and who did a frankly fantastic job bringing the words and the artwork to life.
The song is also going to be re-recorded (probably with a few minor tweaks and changes here and there, because we can never seem to leave things alone) for our album “Seekers” sometime in the next few months, so eventually there’ll be two different versions of the song out there for people to enjoy and argue over.
Ultimately, as much as we write and record this music purely for ourselves… we still hope it makes a connection with other people, and that it entices people to check us out as a band and get involved more in the future!
The band are also currently on the look-out for a second guitarist, following the recent departure of Alistair Bell to join prog-metal types Aeon Zen.
