With last year’s promising True Hallucinations, New York’s Ex Copsoffereda smart take on wistful and jangly indie-pop. Today, the duo of Amalie Bruun and Brian Harding have announced that record’s follow-up. Entitled Daggers, it was executive produced by Smashing PumpkinsfrontmanBilly Corgan and due to hit stores on October 28th via Downtown Records.

In anticipation, they’ve also revealed the album’slead single, “Black Soap”, a track whichsees the two-piece trading in the jangle for more arena-ready atmospherics and bombastic hooks. Solidifying the band’s New York City status, it borrows from a hodgepodge ofBig Apple’s music vets there’s an Interpol-esque opening bassline, pop laDebbie Harry, and Karen O-influenced vocals. Meanwhile, its ethereal aesthetic takes a few cues from the shoegaze genre. Overall, it’s a thrilling, sophisticated new direction for the band, andis more than enough to make Daggers a highly-anticipated fall release.
