LEX premieres debut single “Mystery Boy” — listen

Published: March 27, 2015

When you’re a developing synth pop outfit in the dog-eat-dog world of Los Angeles, it’s a dream to catch the ear of some big shot talent in the electronic community. Someone with the experience and connections to help you develop your sound and identity and skyrocket you straight upwards. For LEX, that dream became an unbelievable reality when Grammy-winning engineer Peter Franco — known for his work on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories – showed interest in working with the group.

With Franco’s help, the quartet honed their style and recorded their self-titled debut EP, set for release on May 5th. As a first listen, the band has shared “Mystery Boy”. Bouncing, dark synths juxtaposed against lead singer Alexis’ almost hushed coos give the track a sense of intrigue befitting its title. Its electronics are murky, but hints of lightness in the percussion and vocals allow it to maintain a beguiling allure. Check it out below.

LEX will head out on a string of West Coast dates near the end of the month, and the shows promise to be something special. Franco has hooked them up with the lighting design duo of Martin Phillips and John McGuire (Daft Punk, Kanye West, deadmau5, Prince), and stage designer Michelle Zamor (Pharell, Katy Perry). They’ve even got Adidas creative director Amanda Zamora working on their costumes. Not bad for a band just releasing its first EP, huh?
