Kevin Devine unveils cover of The Cure’s “Lovesong” — listen

Published: August 25, 2015

Earlier this year, New York indie rocker Kevin Devine launched his Devinyl Splits 7-inch series. Released through Bad Timing Records, each single features a new Devine song on the B-side and a contribution from a special guest on the A-side. For No. 3 in the series, both Scranton indie outfit Tigers Jaw and Devine tackled a classic song by The Cure, with the latter taking on “Lovesong”.

Devine chose to go largely acoustic for the track, though an electric guitar handles much of the solo work backed by the plinks of a xylophone. For most of the song, however, the hollow-bodied strums and slowed pace accentuate the forlorn nature of one of the most heartsick love songs ever written. Check it out below (via Stereogum).

Devinyl Splits No. 3 is due out September 11th, with pre-orders going on now for both physical and digital formats. Tigers Jaw’s contribution to the single, a cover of “In Between Days”, has also been released. Take a listen below.
