De La Soul and Nas join forces on “God It” — listen

Published: April 21, 2015

Last month, De La Soul launched a Kickstarter to fund their first new album in over 10 years, And the Anonymous Nobody, featuring Damon Albarn, David Byrne, and Little Dragon. The crowdsourced campaign has been a huge success thus far, already raking in over $472,000, more than four times (!) the intended goal. Though a proper release date has not yet been confirmed, the seminal hip-hop trio’s released a non-LP track to tide anxious fans over: “God It”, which features another hip-hop legend in Nas.

Outfitted with a jaunty beat and brassy grooves, the song proves that even after a decade De La Soul’s certainly still “God” what it takes to compete with today’s slickest MCs. The group describe the track in a statement:

“While busy at work, we also like to play. This song is not on the new album, but an indication of good music to come. The song was produced by G_Force and you may recognize our featured guest. We’re still in Atlanta recording and it sounds amazing! We can’t wait to get this new album to you.”
