We are gathered here today, O Lord!, to witness and celebrate the release of Bible Songs 1, the new album from New York noise rock trio The Austerity Program (Justin Foley – guitars/preachin’; Thad Calabrese – bass; Drum Machine – percussions). Forgive us this day our daily bread’s trespasses, for we know not what we do. We know only that Bible Songs 1, “six songs about the worst parts of the Old Testament,” is The Austerity Program’s strongest offering to date, a blast of shamanic seizures that sounds like a bastard born of the Jesus Lizard and the Melvins hate fucking. Bible Songs 1 is more awesome than the power You used to part the Red Seas, to raise Lazarus from the dead, and to direct Metallica to make another halfway decent record. Homosexuality does not cause hurricanes, but Bible Songs 1 very well might. Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, yay God. Bless this mess. Amen. L’chaim. Next year in Israel.
