Last week, Soundgarden and Audioslave Chris Cornell tragically passed away, and the music world will be missing his outsized, legendary voice for some time to come. Various musicians and others have been paying tribute to Cornell and his contributions to music over the past few days, but that group hasn’t included a 225-member strong choir. Until now.
Long-running, massively prolific (and just plain massive) Toronto-based vocal ensemble Choir! Choir! Choir! opted to honour Cornell with a 225-voice cover of “Black Hole Sun,” and the results are, as you might expect, incredibly moving and emotional:
Yesterday, Soundgarden posted a plain black photo to their official Facebook page, the group’s first comment on Cornell’s death. “My dark knight is gone,” Soundgarden and Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron wrote on his own Facebook. “Thank you for the incredible outpouring of kindness and love.”
