These headphones solve the iPhone’s dongle problem

Published: February 17, 2017

When Apple announced that the iPhone 7 wouldn’t have a headphone jack, people weren’t happy. Like, they really weren’t happy. Some were unwilling to accept that they’d have to use wireless, Apple-exclusive ear buds, and decided to try to manually reinstall a headphone jack (do not try to do this). Regardless of extremes, it was a contentious issue.

Alternatives have sprung up, however. New headphones are making use of the iPhone’s Lightning connector (where you plug your charger in) to eliminate the need for wireless buds. But that caused another conundrum: you couldn’t charge your phone while you were using headphones. Thank goodness for Apple’s cutting edge innovation right!!!!

Enter Pioneer. The American electronics company has announced a wired earbud set, titled Rayz, that has a Lightning dongle (hehe) built into the cord, allowing you to plug your charger into the headphone wire and send a charge to your phone. It’s ridiculous, overly complex, and brilliant.

The headphones are sweetened by some other key features, like adaptive noise-cancelling technology, an iOS app for EQ’ing, and an auto-pause feature when the ear buds are removed. Your headphones will literally stop your music so you don’t miss a cool part while you pull them out to make awkward conversation at the bus stop. What a time to be alive.

It looks like they’ll retail for $129, with a deluxe version going for around $195. Check them out here.
