Slightly Stoopid plan to release smokeable hash record

Published: January 20, 2017

We’ve all been well-briefed on the wild, prolific comeback of vinyl; record sales are projected to push up against the $1 billion mark this year, and it seems for now that it’s a runaway revival of a once-derelict medium. But some people are already looking to the future of records, one cloaked in a thick, sticky, dank haze. At least, that’s the future Slightly Stoopid are envisioning, as they’ve detailed plans to release a record made of totally smokable hash.

Stoopid have used $6000 worth of bubble hash to press a recording of their lazy jam, “Dabbington.” It’s already gone through two test-pressings using the premium dope, which produced “passable,” then “questionable,” results. A third pressing is scheduled for early this year, but don’t expect the illicit record to go into mass production. “It’s not something you’re going to plop on your turntable over and over again,” says the band’s manager, Jon Phillips.

The finished product will possibly be auctioned off for charity. After all, according to Phillips, “this is an art piece.” If that’s what art is in 2017, fuck it, we’re game.
