Sisqo just remade the “Thong Song” because nothing is sacred

Published: July 19, 2017

We all remember where we where back on that fateful day (December 31, 1999) when a man with a silver buzz cut forever changed our conception of revealing swimwear, mostly by repeating the words “butt” and “truck” for four and a half minutes. Obviously, Sisqo’s “Thong Song” was a massive success, but anyone thinking about the song in 2017, and wondering if perhaps it would sound any better with some EDM claps, steel drum riffs, and anthemtic half-time choruses was out of luck. Until now.

Oslo production trio JCY have remade the track with all those modern ingredients, and even got Sisqo to reprise his greatest moment:

“I’ve been asked so many times over the years to make a new version of ‘Thong Song’ and I have declined every time until I heard the new version that JCY did. I thought it was dope and figured maybe it was time to put some new rims on the Bugatti,” Sisqo told Buzzfeed. First thing: WHO has been asking for this?

Our only complaint? The updated Thong Song doesn’t feature any of the original video’s high-flying choreography and beach cartwheels:

There’s a reason for that, however: “I’d just done a show on the complete opposite side of the country where I dislocated three ribs. The epitome of insult to injury was the couple of hours we had to learn brand new choreography for the video right before recording it where in most cases you get a week to learn a new routine. Even though I had to perform in the video injured, I think it turned out pretty good,” Sisqo said of the video. Hey, if he wanted a stunt double, I’m sure he could’ve just asked Gavin Barnes.

Does the new Thong Song beat out other cool reworks? Jury’s still out.
