Only one Canadian made Forbes’ 2018 Music 30 Under 30

Published: November 14, 2017

The 2018 edition of the world’s most efficient generator of status anxiety, the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, was published today, and among the celebrity throng of entrepreneurs, visionaries, dreamers, innovators, tech wunderkinds,  and other experts in personal branding is only one Canadian, among a wider field of 30 musicians and music-adjacent figures.

Artists like Joe Jonas, Young Thug, Migos, Playboi Carti, and Bebe Rexha all made the cut in the Music category, alongside Grammy-nominated contemporary Christian musician Lauren Daigle. Sadly, only one Canadian made this year’s list: hotshot 21-year-old Toronto producer WondaGurl, who made headlines after placing a beat with Jay-Z (2013’s “Crown”, from Magna Carta Holy Grail) when she was only 15 years old. WondaGurl has since gone on to craft songs for Drake, (“Used To”, “Company”) Rihanna, (“Bitch Better Have My Money”), and Big Sean (“No Favors”), as her Forbes profile notes.

Congratulations to WondaGurl, but hopefully we can have a better showing of homegrown talent next year. Last year’s edition of the list featured Alessia Cara and Tory Lanez, so it’s not like there isn’t precedence.

Here’s the full list of the musicians and music-y people:
