Lido Pimienta wins the 2017 Polaris Music Prize

Last night, Lido Pimienta won the Polaris Music Award for her independently released album, La Papessa. She will receive $50,000 while each of the shortlisted artists will receive $3,000 each. During the post-show press conference, when asked what she would do with the money, Lido took a line from Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” explaining: “I pay my mama bills, I ain’t got no time to chill.”

Established in 2006, the Polaris Music Award is given to the best Canadian album of the year and is selected by jury pool of journalists, broadcasters, bloggers and programmers from across Canada. Past winners have included Tayna Tagaq, Arcade Fire, Caribou and Feist.
