The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its inductees for 2019, a cohort that’s notably diverse both in the styles and perspectives represented. The induction ceremony, which takes place March 29th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, will see the likes of Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, the Cure, Roxy Music, the Zombies, and Def Leppard be honoured for their contributions to the genre.
After a career spanning decades, Janet Jackson has rightfully earned a place in the annals of music history alongside her siblings in the Jackson 5, who were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997. She expressed her thanks with a statement that “I am truly honoured and I am happy to be in there with my brothers.” Janet’s just the latest in the Jackson lineage to put fingerprints over the shrine of rock history, with Michael Jackson also being inducted for his solo career in 2001.
Speaking of double-inductees, 2019’s class also sees Stevie Nicks making history as the first woman to be inducted twice, after Fleetwood Mac receiving the honour back in 1998. Her accomplishment is all the more impressive considering 2019 is the first year that Nicks – in addition to cohorts Def Leppard – were eligible for induction.
The other nominees that failed to make the cut for 2019’s induction were comprised of Devo, MC5, LL Cool J, Kraftwerk, Todd Rundgren, Rage Against the Machine, Rufus & Chaka Khan, and John Prine.
