Elton John may be making his way down the yellow brick road for one last stroll, but the legend himself seems to have his priorities straight when it comes to making sure he has the right soundtrack for the trip. The singer stopped in at record-hawking institution Sonic Boom Records on the Toronto leg of his “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” farewell tour to beef up his Drake collection, right from the source.
Maybe Sir Elton has grown to savour living in these times, or maybe he’s also just a lowkey Future stan, too, we’ll never know – but what we do know is that he copped an LP of the 2015 collab album between Drake and Fewtch, What a Time to Be Alive, during his Sonic Boom visit.
In a picture posted to their Instagram, Sonic Boom gushed that “We’ve had a summer of fabulous guests” – including Canuck Stranger Thing Finn Wolfhard and Head Pumpkin Billy Corgan – “but Elton John might be just be the only knight we’ll ever have in Sonic Boom history,” describing the pop icon as “an absolute and total delight!” And though employees will surely remember their encounter with both musical and literal royalty, one can’t help but also hope Sir Elton might be preparing to sprinkle a “Jumpman” cover into his final setlists.
