Demi Lovato’s Mom: “The opioid crisis in America is at an epidemic level”

Published: September 20, 2018

Demi Lovato may still remain in recovery from her July 24th overdose, but the good news is that we – and especially Ms. Lovato – can take comfort in the fact that she’s got a killer support system by her side.

In an interview with Newsmax, Demi’s mother, Dianna De La Garza, opened up about how she ran to be by Demi’s side as soon as she was informed of her condition – and didn’t leave until she was discharged. “She was in bad shape, but I said to her, ‘Demi, I’m here. I love you.’ At that point, she said back to me, ‘I love you too.’ From that point on, I never allowed myself to ever think that things weren’t going to be OK.”

Though Lovato is currently receiving help in rehab, De La Garza is still doing her part to aid her daughter – by becoming a self-admitted “accidental spokeswoman” against the opioid crisis, pushed to raise awareness after experiencing its terrors firsthand. “You don’t see it coming, and that’s the scary thing,” she said, promising that “I want to do whatever I can in this fight and fight with whoever will help me.”

It’s not just her mother who has Lovato’s back, either: TMZ reports that her ex-boyfriend of six years, That 70’s Show star Wilmer Valderrama, has been a “constant presence” in Lovato’s life during her stint in rehab, the actor having flown down multiple times to offer his support.

Though there’s no official word on the type of relationship the two currently have with one another – there are reports of the two having “boyfriend/girlfriend” vibes during their visits to the Starbucks near Lovato’s rehab facilities – what matters is that the 26 year old singer has people in her life that want nothing but to help her through this difficult time.
