Virgil Abloh and Kanye West Share Emotional Moment at Louis Vuitton Show

Published: June 21, 2018

Virgil Abloh made history at Paris Fashion Week. As the first African-American artistic director of a top French heritage house, the Off-White designer presented his first menswear collection for Louis Vuitton on Thursday (June 21).

The star-studded Spring-Summer 2019 show, held at Parisien Palais Royal, featured a prismatic runway and famous models including Kid Cudi, Playboi Carti, Theophilus London, and Dev Hynes, who walked the runway in Abloh’s creations as tracks from ye played. The front row was filled with stars like Kanye West, Travis Scott, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Rita Ora, Miguel, A$AP Rocky, J Balvin, Takashi Murakami, and Rihanna.

“witnessed black history in off white,” said RiRi, who was among the first to wear the designer’s new collection.

But the most touching moment of the show came at the end when Abloh took his final bow. He ran up to Kanye and the two cried as they hugged on the runway. Kanye was seen wiping away tears as Kim comforted him.

Both hailing from Chicago, Abloh and West’s friendship started in the early 2000s. They interned together at Fendi in 2009. Following their internship, West appointed Abloh creative director of his DONDA agency.

The moment also marked Kim Kardashian’s first time back in Paris since she was robbed at gunpoint a year-and-a-half ago. “Thank you Paris for the emotional trip back!” she tweeted. “I couldn’t have come for a better reason.”
