J. Cole: 5 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About The Dreamville Boss

Published: April 23, 2018

About two weeks ago, multi-platinum artist J. Cole surprised his fans with details of a new album. The album, titled KOD, came out at 12:00 AM on the 20th of April, and the expectations leading up to it were huge. Cole had tweeted the track list, revealing that the album has 12 songs with just one featured artist – KiLL Edward.

The rapper even had a pair of free listening sessions in New York City and London prior to the 20th in which the crowd wasn’t permitted to bring in any phones or cameras. The final details he tweeted were the meanings of the album title, which are “Kids on Drugs”, “King Overdosed” and “Kill Our Demons”.

KOD has been extremely successful so far, debuting at #1 on Billboard and even breaking the Spotify record for most opening day streams in the United States with 4.2 million plays. Considering the release and the magnitude of the hip-hop legend’s past works, here are 5 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know about J. Cole.

1. J. Cole is really smart.

Born Jermaine Lamarr Cole, the rapper graduated high school in New York City with a phenomenal 4.2 GPA. His grade point average led him to an academic scholarship at St. John’s University, where he completed his schooling with a 3.8 GPA at magna cum laude status. Originally, Cole set out to study computer science but changed this to business after witnessing the lonely life of one of his computer professors. Hilariously enough, Cole received his physical diploma in 2015 (despite graduating in 2007) due to a late textbook fee.
