Nekropsi, formed by the core guitars and drum trio Cem, Cevdet and Tolga, got to a

cult status and pioneered the alternative/progressive music scene of Istanbul after their debut ‘Mi Kubbesi’ (ADA-1995) which they released in relatively very early age.

A 74 minutes instrumental album, Mi Kubbesi (‘The E Dome’ – a story in the sleeve of

the album by drummer Cevdet) was getting together a very unique mix in a wide span of sounds, e.g progressive to industrial, Turkish folk to thrash and noise, with lots of new ideas in texture, time line and rhythm.

Nekropsi’s ‘creepy and wild’ (quoting Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin after watching the band opening in an Istanbul gig) live performances created a dedicated audience in big cities of Turkey as well as international underground.

Their approach on stage made them an ideal front band for both experimental acts like Ruins and the big stage masters e.g Page/Plant, Faith No More, Beastie Boys.

After recording ‘1998’ and doing studio & touring in France, the band suddenly split

and disappeared. Band members appeared in many music, sound and contemporary art

projects till the release of the brisk and surprising album titled “Volume 2, Published Every Ten Years” (KONTRAPLAK and A.K.-2007).

Proposing a contemporary sound of tight and linear guitars/bass/drums and the surprising inclusion of neurotic, delirious, contradictory vocals, the album includes indie hits like the rhythmically revolutionary Harf Devrimi (The Alphabets Revolution), dancy and dark “Erciyes Sokta” and the cheesy track ‘Papa’ sang in Turkish and bad German.

Cem and Cevdet, the all times guitar-drum duo of Nekropsi was perfectly complemented by bassist Kerem (from Kurban) and Gokhan (from d2gg) for a new season of gigs. The band took a brand new turning in September 2007 with the piece entitled ‘4/4’ which they performed on 4 different floors of the Istanbul Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center in the opening day of 10th Istanbul Bienniale, while keeping on performing the annual ‘Hippodrome Concerts’ in which they carry the rehearsal setting to stage with audience placed around. Nekropsi, the 'cultural heritage' from Istanbul avantgarde music scene, is a must see when they are live and kicking on stage.
